Now bilingual teaching is drawing much attention in our society, manyuniversities and middle schools begin to use English for the teaching of certainsubjects. In this paper, the efforts are made in theoretical and practical research. We introducethe definition of bilingual education and bilingual teaching, compare the bilingualteaching status of china with those abroad, then analyze the main factors that affectthe spreading of bilingual teaching, discuss the pedagogical theories that supplysupport for bilingual teaching. The practical research mainly consists of three parts.First, we compile integrated science teaching materials. I work on chapter five (air)and chapter seven (living creatures). These materials attach much importance to thedevelopment of students, the knowledge is useful and interesting for middle schoolstudents.Second, we introduce the practice of bilingual teaching activity in Nanjing No.8Middle School. The aim of the activity is to improve the students' English level andinspire their interests in chemistry. We select chemistry knowledge related to our dailylife, also some chemical experiments. This activity supplies students an Englishspeaking and listening situation and cultivate their ability to gain and expresschemical information in English. At last, we introduce the "bilingual forum" activity among chemistry postgraduates.Analyzing the mental characteristics of graduates and their knowledge level, thebilingual teaching among graduates is believed to be feasible. We select several topicsincluding the latest development in chemistry. Through studying and discussing thesetopics, the participators are improved greatly in many aspects. From the theoretical and practical research, we get some experience of how to givebilingual teaching in middle school students and postgraduates.
