Colleges And Universities Across The Development Goals And Implementation Strategies

Since the 21st century, the higher education of China is undergoing a great change. Some Chinese key universities are aimed at developing into the first-class or high-level research universities. This strategy cannot be realized by the conventional methods, so the striding development should be adopted.The objectives and methods of striding development of universities are studied. The thesis is divided into four chapters.In Chapter 1, the concept of striding development is defined. The striding development is a development train of thought or development strategy compared to gradual development. The striding development of a university means the striding promotion of its educational power in a specific space system. For a university which has chosen striding development strategy, it is expected to reach a certain development level in relatively short time and with relatively few resources. The striding development strategy of some Chinese universities is generally closely related with their efforts to build high-level or first-class universities. Generally speaking, the striding development is characterized by the striding of development path, the realizability of development objective, the change of development environment, the innovation of development mechanism, and the coordination of development state.In Chapter 2, the objectives of striding development of universities are discussed. The main factors affecting the determination of the objectives of the striding development include the requirements of social development, the development of higher education and universities themselves. The objective of the striding development of key universitiesshould be the realization of transformation from teaching-research universities to research universities. In determining the objectives of striding development, the relationships between quality and quantity, general character and individual character, creativity education and professional education, naturalization and internationalization must be corrected dealt with.In Chapter 3, the methods to realize the striding development of universities are studied. It is believed that the idea of university is the soul, the educational innovation is the driving force, the disciplinary construction is the foundation, and the cooperative running is the platform of the striding development.In Chapter 4, taking the Central South University as an example, the verification study of the striding development of Chinese key universities is made. The case study clearly shows that it is necessary and feasible to realize the striding development of Chinese universities and that during this process it is important to put emphasis on the methods.
