The educational reform in China in the 21st century is spreading out on the historical background of economic boom and steady society , very much like a raging fire launches. As an important part of higher education, the physical education in universities and colleges is facing the study for special subject on "How to Keep Pace with the Era of Educational Reform in China". Through carding the course of the development of the physical education in universities and colleges in China, the author summarizes the experience during the course of development and thoroughly analyzes the existing problems in the process, what is more, puts forward the countermeasures to solve these problems on the basis of the thorough analysis.This article is divided into four parts.In the first part of the article the author briefly reviews the development of the physical education curriculum in universities and colleges in China from two aspects: the preparation before the publication of the syllabus of physical education curriculum in universities and colleges in China and the evolution of its syllabus.In the second part of the article, the author summarizes the experience of the development by means of rearrangement of the development of physical education curriculum in universities andcolleges in China before the reform and opening up of our country. It is considered that at the first stage of the development the guiding idea of "Buildup of Constitution" and the relevant principles to write teaching materials has been established, and also the final evaluating techniques has been adopted and therefore it will be good for the comprehension of sporting techniques. At the second stage the guiding idea of aiming to educating people and the courses objectives has been established and * divided the purposes and tasks apart, types of curriculum has been improved, principles to compile teaching materials has been improved and achieved to select and edit relevant materials, the reform of the P.E. teaching mode has been to some extend changed, and integrated evaluation of the students' P. E. results has been put up as well. At the third stage the thought of "Health is the first priority" has been considered to be the guiding idea of physical culture curriculum in universities and colleges, psychology and social adaptability curricular objectives have been added, the contents of the curriculum have been improved a lot, and the concept of evaluation has been broken through.In the third part of the article the author uses the curricular theories to analyze in depth the problems that lie in the process of the development of physical education curriculum in universities and colleges since the reform and opening in China from four aspects of the curricular objectives, the curricular frames and contents, and theimplementation and evaluation of the curriculum on the basis of the summing up existing experience of its development. The author believes that many problems lies in the process of the development. For example, the curricular objectives are short of administrative levels and successive orders, the types of the curriculum are just established in form and lay too much stress on theoretical research and is very short of diversity, the administrative levels of the curriculum are too simple and lack systematization and adaptability, the pertinence of the curricular content is not obvious and is devoid of conformity and innovation, the teaching can not meet the requirement of the transform of the age, and the system of the curricular evaluation is also not integrated.Aiming at the problems that lie in the process of the development of physical education curriculum in universities and colleges, the author puts forward in the fourth part of the article that for offering research direction to push the reform of physical culture curriculum in universities and colleges, the system of the curricular objectives should be optimized, the frames and contents of the curriculum should be adjusted, the implementation of the curriculum should be improved, and the countermeasures to the curricular evaluation should be reformed.
