There has been an essential change in college entrance exams to meet the demand of quality education. However, the present geography teaching in middle schools is still teacher-centered model of knowledge instilling, in which students, as objects, are always in the position of passive receiving knowledge. This kind of teaching prevents the students' individuality and potency, binds the development of their character, which can not meet the demand of times and the college entrance exams. Therefore, it is urgent for us to change the situation by finding out a new way of geography teaching management with the improvement of the students' quality as its teaching aim. At present, there have been many articles on quality education and people are beginning to be more concerned with this issue. And articles on middle school geography opening-oriented teaching have also appeared. But little study has been done on how to carry out opening-oriented teaching in middle schools from theoretical aspect. Few people have done any research on how to do this kind of teaching, what benefits it will bring to the students in quality education.This thesis will deal with the idea of opening-oriented teaching with improving students' quality as goal, talk about its theoretical evidence, and discuss the implementing of opening-oriented teaching by way of case study from teaching contents, teaching methodology and teaching form. It will also analyze the effect of this kind of teaching on cultivating students' quality so that students will gain learning ability, be more creative, and have sound personality. By doing this research, the practical effects of this kind of teaching will be analyzed, and the teaching aims of this study will be evaluated.
