With the pace of the world's entering the 21st century, English has become more and more important. But the traditional English teaching approach in our country cannot keep the pace with the development of the economy of our country. It has aroused great attention of the whole educational circle how to develop the practical English ability of the students. Inquiry- based learning teaches the students to learn how to learn. It helps the students to master the skills, which are essential, such as: careful observation, reasoning, critical thinking, and the ability to justify or refute existing knowledge are developed creative thinking and curiosity is stimulated. Though it is carried out all over the world, it's new in China. Most senior middle schools in Kunming such as No.1 High School,No.8 High school etc. are trying the teaching method as a curriculum and have a better result. Is it only used as an inquiring curriculum and only in senior schools? It is difficult to find the clear answer, for the books on the research field especially on Inquiring -based Learning of junior schools are seldom written.. The author probes the problem by carrying out the investigation "Inquiring -based Learning in Kunming' s junior middle schools" to discuss the result and reasons . By explaining of the theory of " Inquiring-based Learning in English" ,the author points out the key point and breakthrough point of the research. By discussing something more in the English teaching in the junior middle schools, the author show how to use " Inquiring-based Learning in English " method to motivate the students and increase their self-esteem to develop their creative thinking . The final aim is to tell the teachers how to use the valuable and practical method to improve the students' ability of mastering the language and improve themselves so as to promote the development of the English-teaching in our country.
