In recent years , campus violence events involving teachers have been taken place frequently both in primary schools and middle schools in China . People often consider such things as the degeneration of teacher's professional ethics . However , the findings of researches indicate that what's behind the teachers' ethics is their psychological crisis.Reviewing relevant researches , my thesis is trying to investigate teachers' mental health states and characteristics of mental problems , and to do further analysis as well as to provide countermeasures for maintaining teachers' mental health .Using the Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL--90) and self-editing questionnaire ,118 teachers coming from four middle schools of Kunming were tested . The results showed that :(1) Excepet phobic anxiety and interpersonal sensitivity , the other seven factors' scores of middle school teachers were significantly higher than those of national norm , indicating that their mental health levels were poorer than the normal population's ; (2) Among the teachers' mild mental problems , the preceding six factors were obsessive compulsive and paranoid ideation (both of them ranked first) , interpersonal sensitivity , depression , hostility and additional items , respectively ; (3) The factors with serious symptoms were hostility and somatization (both of them ranked first), interpersonal sensitivity and additional items (both ranked second) , and obsessive compulsive and paranoid ideation (both ranked third) . In addition , according to the criterion (namely , the score of one factor among 9 factors ≥ 3) , about 10.2% teachers reached it; (4) Teachersin charge of class showed significantly higher scores of anxiety than those of other teachers ; (5) Female teachers showed significantly higher scores of anxiety and obsessive compulsive than those of male teachers ; (6) Teachers with higher educational backgrounds showed significantly serious depression than that of teachers with lower ones ; (7) Middle-aged and senior teachers showed moue serious symptoms of somatization than those of young teachers .Simultaneously , the auxiliary inquiry also showed that the middle-school teachers work too long a day , two thirds of teachers work more than 8 hours a day . Over half of teachers felt the heavey pressure from the work . And 2/3 of teachers did not satisfy with their work , 1/5 of teachers doesn't content themselves deeply. Nearly 4/10 of them never received any kind of psychological training. Only 3% of them had received the professional psychological training before. 4/10 of them thought that they had some psychological problems . About 4% of them believed that they had serious mental disordes .Through the reason analysis about the inquiry result , it suggested that the middle-school teachers had to face to the great vocational pressure. This pressure came from three sides: the first , was the outer pressures of schools and the society; the second , was the teachers' vocation pressure ; and the third , the teachers own pressure.Facing above said sitnations , I think that the active measures should be taken to improve and protect the psychological health of middle-school teachers, and points out the corresponding suggestions concerned with the teachers' psychology health . Besides the adjustment for systems , lowering the pressure of the teachers outside , an educational systems for the perfect of teachers' psychology should be built too . Also , in order to make teachers know of their psychological status themselves , an examinational system for regular inquiring the status of teachers' psychology and their quality should be built up . And provide them some psychological knowledge , training them how to adjust themselves . In addition some lectures about psychological education should be given .
