With the development of the information technology(IT), more and more mathematics teachers use the Geometer's Sketchpad(GSP) to create teaching environments. There have been some questions: old ideas of education and teaching; mistakes in software selection and use; and lower ability of making courseware. GSP has a powerful representation at a large range of mathematics branch, such as geometry, algebra, trigonometry and calculus. GSP is a dynamic software, which is easy to operate and convenient to use. GSP is a good companion to teachers and students. A telescope of observing mathematics, a laboratory for studying mathematical questions, as well as a practice garden plot to train student's inner cultivative consciousness. This essay lays emphasis upon the necessities in situational use of GSP as a teaching method through various scopes as to the nature of mathematics, it's teaching and learning, the students' progressive thinking as well as technological teaching. It characterizes in typical and practical examples of maths teaching and learning. Personally, GSP consists mostly of experiment approach to concept-building, inquiry learning and problem-solving for maths. Apart from some principals and major issues in use of GSP, it pulls forward creative requirements for the use of GSP and the reform of New Curriculum.
