During the 21st century, with the rapid development of science and technology and theabrupt rising of information economy, mathematics applying is becoming more and moreimportant. The society requires all the people have to master more useful mathematicalknowledge;know well and better use specified mathematical approach;learn and usemathematical linguistics;know well and use mathematical thinking method. So newunderstandings and considerations on mathematics teaching must be put forward.During the senior middle school stage, the aim of mathematics teaching is not just tofeed the students with mathematical knowledge, but to develop their attainments so thatwhen they step into the world after they leave school, they can initiatively have amathematical view of the world;when they are faced with problems to be solved ,they caninitiatively attempt to explore settlement tactics from a viewpoint of mathematics;whenthey accept a new mathematical theory, they can initiatively seek the practical appliedvalue of this new theory, that is to develop the students' mathematics applyingconsciousness.After the interview with senior school teachers and students ,I find there is still a lot todo with the development of mathematics applying consciousness to the students. Afteranalysis the reason mainly lies in:(1) Many teachers still have one-side understanding about the development ofmathematics applying consciousness to the students. Thinking that the contents are toomuch ,time is limited ,persisting that the development of mathematics applyingconsciousness is done at the loss of training of basic knowledge , they isolate themathematics applying from the basic training. Moreover the proportion of mathematicsapplying questions is little ,so they think that about mathematics teaching it is principalto pass on knowledge ,to train thinking method and finally to take an entrance examinationduring the elementary education stage.(2) Though some teachers realize the importance of mathematics applying, they find itquite difficult and troublesome to search for the real mathematics applying teachingmaterials and models because of the limit of knowledge and ability .So during theirteaching process, they pay no more attention to getting in touch with reality and displayingthe applying of mathematics knowledge. They would like to use the ready-made applyingteaching materials instead of making creative use of them.(3) Students have a narrow and limited understanding about the use of mathematics.Their motive of study mathematics is just to take the entrance examination .They take anout-of-date method about learning mathematical concepts, theorems, formulas and rules.Not deeply understanding and knowing well the knowledge a group of students learnby rote, which is disadvantageous to developing the applying consciousness. It is quitedifficult to develop the consciousness and ability of mathematical applying to real worldfor the students who are lack of good mathematic cognitive structure and have a bad abilityof organizing mathematic knowledge in the form of network;and the students can nottransform real problems into mathematic ones successfully because they have a badmathematical reading comprehension less accumulation of regular mathematic modeling.(4) The current evaluation criterion is mainly examination. The entrance examinationto college is an significant baton which plays a role of guide to teaching . The competitionof entering a higher school is still sever, so "examine what, study what" is very common .That means the teachers haven't carry out the development of mathematics applyingconsciousness.Based on the above reasons, with the guide of constructivism theory andmeta-cognition, connecting with my own teaching practice ,I think in order to developsenior school students' mathematics applying consciousness, teachers must first refreshtheir viewpoint and improve their own quality so that they can develop the students'mathematics applying consciousness at a high point. Section four of the this article mainlytalks about how to develop senior school students' mathematics applying consciousness inthe fields of classroom instruction and extra-curricular activities ,furthermore point out thatreasonable evaluation criterion is advantageous in developing mathematics applyingconsciousness. It is not an easy matter to develop mathematics applying consciousness. Itrequires the teachers arouse the students' applying consciousness consciously at anopportune moment, which goes through a process of percolation, repetition, alternating,increase progressively, spiraling rise and continuous deepening.Section 5: 2 teaching plans on how to develop mathematics applying consciousness...
