Under the background of knowledge economy and some problems for correspondencestudents themselves, the research for the value-direction of the correspondence students isthe key problem for improving the correspondence education quality and promotingall-round development for correspondence students. It is also the urgent problem to besolved in the current period for researching correspondence education.The 21st century is the society of knowledge economy built in the production ofknowledge, distribution and the usage. Its advent will surely bring the change of education,working methods, society structure, value concept, the public relationships and some otheraspects. During the new century, knowledge will become the core capital. However,knowledge comes mainly from person's studying. In this way, the person, who isn't good atstudying or is unwilling to study, will lag behind others or be washed out from the currenttimes. So, as the main part of the adult education, the correspondence education should betake on the responsibility to act as the main role to construct the multi—value learningsociety. Starting from some concerns of knowledge economy, this thesis analyzed thenecessary historical responsibility of the correspondence education and the correspondenceeducation actuality at present which cannot satisfy the demands of the current times.Besides that, this thesis put forward the view that what the knowledge economy societyrequires the society members to do is to make them study automatically and know how tostudy well with the aim to improve all-round quality themselves.The second section of this thesis analyzed the correspondence students' studyingactuality and the cause of their value-direction. The studying actuality of the correspondencestudents is discomforting. On the one hand, there are so many badness phenomenons, suchas some absences in class, cheating in examination, falsification, etc. On the other hind, theaim for their studying is just to obtain the certificate, change the working position orheighten the salary. In short, the value-direction is mainly utilitarian. The causes for thisresult lie in the two aspects as follows:One is their own quality. It is not so matchablebetween the badness studying motivation and studying psychological barrier of thecorrespondence students and the necessary characters they should have as the main structureof the adult education. Through analysis and comparison, we can draw a conclusion: thedirect and interior cause for correspondence students to seek for certificates unilaterally isbecause of their indifferent ego consciousness. Another one is the outside aspect. The seriesanalysis from the historical evolvement of the education value-direction and some aspects ofsocial reality shows the value-direction is also influenced by the social historicalexperiences and the ambience value-direction. But the outside cause is just the condition ofchange and the inside cause is just the basis of the change. The value functioned by thesame object varies from different main body because of its different essence power anddifferent condition. So to solve this problem, we must firstly arouse correspondencestudents' ego consciousness to make them build up the correct studying value-direction tomeet the needs of the current times' requirements of the knowledge economy.At last, the thesis illustrated the correspondence students' multi — value in thebackground of knowledge economy. It requires correspondence students not only to pursuelow-level utilitarian value. Their value-direction should be more abundant: They shoulddevelop their utilitarian value into the higher level value: to pursue the truth, the goodnessand the beauty. They should make an effort to combine utilitarian value perfectly with thevalue of the truth, the goodness and the beauty to develop themselves freely andharmoniously. Only under this basis can they build up their Marxism's value concept systemconcerning human's all-round development and realize person's root value: the unificationof the society development and individual development.
