With increasingly fierce competition in the higher education market, non-governmental colleges have to examine their development advantages in order to exist and develop. This paper, based on the historical development and actual operation, firstly analyzes the external development advantages of non-governmental colleges; then, compared with state-own universities and colleges, the paper explores their great internal development advantages owning to the non-governmental mechanism; lastly, the paper offers some measurements to bring the development advantages into play. This paper mainly comprises four chapters:The first chapter, Introduction, mainly describes the research target, research methods and research content, defines and differentiates some related concepts.The second chapter, the historical development and current condition of China's non-governmental higher education, aims to point out the fact that China's non-governmental colleges are not so good as state-own universities and colleges in many aspects, but they are demonstrating great vitality and competition.The third chapter, as the key part of the paper, analyzes the external and internal development advantages of the non-governmental colleges. It firstly analyzes the external ones from the points of the great demands of higher education, abundant private funds, favorable laws and policies, governmental strategies and increasingly firm social basis. Then the paper, compared with state-own universities and colleges from the aspects of property rights, leadership, cost control, diversities of specialties and education market development to illuminate the view that non-governmental mechanism leads to its greatest development advantagesThe fourth chapter puts forward countermeasures on bringing the advantages into play from the aspects of external supports and internal reform and self-improvement, which can promise the non-governmental colleges a bright future in the higher education market.
