"The Problem is the heart of mathematics", the exercises are the key to learn, understand and master the knowledge of mathematics and are important part of mathematics curriculum and teaching. With the reform of new curriculum, new teaching materials of various versions are published one after another. Under the influence of concept and target of the new curriculum, the setup of exercises shows great change compared with previous ones: the contents are rich and colorful, involving various fields such as science and daily life; the types are various, adding open-ended problems, investigating problems, hand-on operating problems and practice problems. How are these changes presented? The thesis will take it as the entry-point for the research in exercises.Based on the analysis of the trial teaching materials for grades 7 to 9 compiled according to "The Standards of Mathematics Curriculum for Compulsory Education (Trial Draft)" issued by Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China in 2001, mainly including the teaching materials and parts of examination paper for the Senior High School Entrance Examination of the People's Education Press, Beijing Normal University Press and Hunan Education Press, compared with the teaching materials of the People's Education Press (Grades 7-9) compiled in accordance with the Teaching Program, by the presentation of large quantities of examples, the thesis aims at the explanation for the change features of the exercises of new curriculum, analyzes the cause of the changes of the exercises of new curriculum and at last proposes some suggestions and advice on the deficiency existing in the current exercises of the new curriculum.
