Exercises of mathematics teaching in junior high school is an important form of mathematics education. This teaching method plays an essential role for helping students to master the basic knowledge, basic skills, basic ideas and basic activity experience. It is also an important way to develop students’ mathematical ability and improve their mathematical thinking.Considering the present situation of the teaching for mathematical exercises, the view of mathematics, mathematics learning and mathematics teaching, and the requirements of new curriculum philosophy and the "four bases", referring to the exercise teaching theory research of recent years, we propose a new method for the teaching exercises, the "three levels" exercises teaching. The main contents are as following.(1) The first level is to solve a given problem by one fixed suitable method.In this level, we mainly focus on the teaching for basic exercises. Our purpose is to make students getting a deep understanding of the basic concepts so that the integrity and specific of these concepts can help students to grasp the knowledge firmly and form a perfect reasonable cognitive structure gradually.(2) The second level is to solve more problems by utilizing the method of a similarity problem. In this level, we focus on the summary and applications of every method. Our purpose is to learn how to summary methods and solve problems by group training different types of exercises. What’s more, we also want to cultivate students’ good habits of solving problems in this level.(3) The third level is to solve different problems by mathematical thoughts. In this level, we focus on the mathematical thoughts which come from the solving methods. Our purpose is to establish the formation ofmathematical system for the students in the teaching of mathematics thoughts.In our research, we mainly illustrate the "three level" exercises teaching by determining the teaching objectives, selecting the exercise and teaching process. Then we give a large number of cases for supporting. Finally, we obtain the advantages of the "three level" exercises teaching by designing and analyzing two exercises teaching case. From this research, we can provide some basis for the implementation of the concept of new curriculum standard in the exercise class.
