Through studying and comparing mother tongue (L1) teaching materials of different countries, we can discuss different levels of economic development, explore how those countries with different cultural backgrounds design and write L1 teaching materials which are suitable to their own feature, based on the country's situation. Vietnam and China are both advocating a revolution in L1 education. The success of this revolution lastly depends on teaching, and one of the factors which have decisive affect on teaching is text book. Therefore, the two countries both pay attention to L1 textbook writing and its development. "Ngu van" ("Language") has become the L1 textbook for junior high school of all Vietnam after five years (2000 to 2005) of experimenting and arranging. While "Su jiao ban" (The edition published by Jiangsu education press) is a result in the revolution progress of Chinese L1 education which is one of the national standard experimental textbooks for compulsory education course of China and has been used in several hundred experimental locals of more than 20 provinces (cities, autonomous regions).Taking two series of L1 textbook for junior high school "Ngu van" of Vietnam and "Sujiao ban" of China as example, we fully analyze and compare the writing idea, the structure and the content system of the L1 textbook for junior high school of Vietnam and China. Particular attention is given to the learning of their strong and weak points, the similarities and differences between them and also the reasons causing the fact in order to make an introduction of L1 education, the textbook, and textbook writing of Vietnam at present; and in order to provide reference to the Comparative Studies of L1 Textbooks in China and Other Countries.Also hoping the results and experiences of L1 text book writing for junior high school in China introduced in this thesis will be useful to Vietnamese researchers who study about L1 teaching material, and therefore will be useful in improving L1 education and the textbook writing of Vietnam.
