Parent-Child book reading is very important in that it is significant to children’s growth. It not only provides various knowledge, but also enchance children’s cognitive ability, inspire their imagination and provide an outlet for children to express their emotion. This dissertation tends to find the differences of picture-book reading situation based on a contrast study, look for the present problems of Vietnamese children in reading picture books and thus provide some suggestions about the current picture- book reading situation of Vietnamese children.This dissertation takes questionaire as the tool, and children and parents as the subject s to compare Chinese children picture-book reading situation with that of Vietnamese children. We have randomly selected 220 Vietnamese parents from 4Kindergartens in Haiphong and 220 Chinese parents from 3 kindergartens in Tianjin respectively. The questionnaire contains 5 parts:Basic situation of children reading in China and Vietnam, parents’ concept of children reading in China and Viet Nam, picture book selection by parents from China and Viet Nam, shared reading between parents and children of the two nations, feedback from parents of the 2 nations.According to research; both the two nations’ parents have good attitude toward share picture book reading. Currently, investment is not enough for both Chinese and Vietnamese parents pay less attention on children’s early stage reading, few money on the buying the story books, and lack guidance methods for children to read the story book.Based on our questionnaire result, we suggest that family, society and nation should pay special attention to children’s early stage reading. It is not only the activity of family and school, but also focus of the whole society. Therefore, the development of children reading should be the systematic project which needs efforts by whole society.
