One of the problems in the process of using IT in classroom teaching on part of school teachers in Beijing is that application of IT doesn't serve the needs of classroom teaching well. It is common to see that use of IT prevents the lesson goals from being attained. In order to tackle this problem, Beijing Committee of Education provided a program of Integration of IT with Classroom Teaching for Beijing primary and secondary school teachers. This program is designed to integrate IT skills into a widely accepted education theoretical framework so that the teacher trainees will be able use IT in their classroom right under the guideline of educational theories.My dissertation results from the study of the implementation and effect of the program among school teacher trainees. By means of literature study, case study and observation, I studied several cases of geography teachers from middle school. My studies shows that the program of Integration of IT with Teaching and Learning in Classroom did help teacher trainees to enhance professional skills in IT-equipped classroom, especially in IT knowledge and skills and in classroom teaching strategies.On the other hand, it cannot be denied that some setbacks became more visible with the progress of the program, such as separation of theory instruction from its practice, weak conceptualization and inadequate guidance of group work. For the sake of optimal outcome of the training, I changed in training procedure from 'theory study, skill learning, practice and assessment' to 'study through experience, discovering through practice, assessment through feedback and improvement through creation'. In process of training, I made special effort to help trainees form learning group characterized by mutual assistance in learning, which proved to be more effective in furthering professional development in teachers.The findings from my studies also support the widely held idea that the program has produced significant effect on bettering the application of IT in classroom teaching. Take geography teaching, it has made favorable changes in presentation of lesson material, instruction and more interaction between teacher and students and among students themselves. In my three cases, IT application and its skills are used as a major support to independent and discovering learning, which shows that those teacher trainees are building up the new concepts of classroom instruction and students centered instruction.At the end, I pointed out the setbacks of the research and put forward the ideas of improvement for the future study.
