This is a research aiming to find out the causes of bad achievement of college students and figure out recommendable solution to them. The research target is composed of 242 either excellent or poor students randomly chosen from Social work and Environmental Engineering of Southern Yangtze University, Finance and Mechanical Engineering and Automation of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Abundant first-hand material is gained by applying the general self-efficacy scale, the learning efficacy scale, the learning motivation scale and the achievement goal orientation scale, and based on the analysis on the material, we draw the following conclusions:1. The excellent college students are prior to the poor students concerning their learning efficacy, intrinsic motivation and learning orientation.2. The learning efficacy is extremely positively related to intrinsic motivation and learning orientation, and positively related to extrinsic motivation, but extremely negatively related to escaping orientation. The intrinsic motivation is extremely positively related to the extrinsic motivation , learning orientation and proving orientation.3. Concerning the research subjects, there is no absolute gap between excellent art or science students. However, the learning efficacy and extrinsic motivation of poor art or science students are obviously different. The learning efficacy of poor science students is lower than that of poor art students. The extrinsic motivation of the poor science students is higher than that of poor art students.4. The only different research item between excellent students from different university focuses on their self-efficacy; however, there is no obvious differences between poor students from different university concerning all the research items.5. The only different research item between excellent students from different grades focuses on their self-efficacy; however, the different research item between poor students from different grades focuses on their learning efficacy and intrinsic motivation .
