Survey And Consideration Of China's Colleges And Universities To Promote Students' Heterogeneous Cultural Understanding Of The Status Quo

One of the purposes of high education is to promote human beings' all-round development. High education has the functions of handing down cultures to human beings' offspring and promoting cultural exchange among different countries and races, as well as propelling the harmonious development of the whole society. The ideas of life-long education and general education have been raised. All these features of high education show the necessity of promoting students' understanding and accepting of the alien culture. Chinese open policies and modernization, especially the quick development of economy since China joined WTO, and the globalization of the whole world intensify this requirement greatly both internally and externally. High education should take up the responsibility of promoting the world's cultural diversity, as well as cultural understanding and incorporation among all the people in the world. The writer of this thesis makes a survey in Nanjing University, Southeast University and Nanjing university of Science and Technology, employing questionnaire, interview and archive study, etc. Based on a sea of records and files, the writer describes the current situation of how the three universities help student understand and accept alien culture in different ways and analyzes the reasons for it deeply. Perfecting current foreign language education, the setting up of optional courses, the practice of bilingual teaching, the cultivation of alien cultural atmosphere on campus and enhancement of international exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries, as well as the proper linking of alien culture education in universities and middle schools and primary schools, and organic incorporation of alien culture with local culture are mentioned as the measures of promoting students' alien culture study, so as to nurture international talents who are physically and mentally healthy, with perfect personality, and can adapt themselves to the development of the society.
