The Relationship Of Adult Attachment Style And Marital Quality

Adult attachment is based on early attachment experience, which is not the objective of reflecting on these experiences, but the individual attitudes and evaluation, the cognition and reconstruction of their early experiences. Marriage is a combination of men and women as couples decide to develop partner relationship, to maintain close relations with the emotional, to experience life stage, to complete the task of child-rearing. Factors affecting the marriage quality more complicated, more difficult to study also and that are why so many psychologists and sociologists pay more attention to this area.Domestic research is still relatively small on adult attachment, so to research the relationship between attachment style and marital quality of Chinese married groups at the present is a reality. This study explores the relationship of married individuals' attachment styles, their style of communication, depression feelings, attributional style and the quality of marital status, by surveying a sample of 306 married individuals through questionnaire. The result shows that (1)There is no differences of gender on adult attachment styles, attribution style, communication level, depression level and marital quality. (2)There is no differences of education and whether caring children on the marital quality. (3)The avoid attachment has positive effects on the anxiety attachment. (4)The adult attachment style has direct and significant negative effects on the marital quality. (5)The adult attachment has indirect effects on the marital quality through attribution style, communication level, depression level. ?There are negative effects among attribution style, communication level and adult attachment style. (7) Attributional style forecast depression level, then to affect the communication behavior. (8)The individuals of low degree avoid/anxiety attachment level have better marital quality than the high degree avoid/anxiety attachment level.The results indicate that adult attachment and attribution style, communication level, depression level may affect the marital quality, so both the couples and the people engaging in the work of marriage counseling should consider their characteristics and the consequence impact of attributional style, communication level, emotion adjustment and other factors. In addition, because attachment internal working model has a direct intervention role on marital quality, so unmarried people also should be aware of their future partners attachment style match, then to lower the risk of their marital relations.
