Study On The ITP Polytechnic Of New Zealand

New Zealand, located in the South Pacific, is less than 300,000sq kilometers with a small population of more than 4 million. Education is paid more attention in New Zealand, where every citizen of all ages receives education freely. Nowadays it seems that education is a must for the purpose of preparing you for a more fulfilling and rewarding career in New Zealand. The Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITP), the tertiary vocational education in New Zealand, offer students with Competency-Based Education so that most students fit for jobs quickly and successfully after graduation. ITPs are world-famous with its special education mode and have made a great progress within more than one hundred year.Documentation and comparison were handled in this thesis where ITP's management mode, curriculum development and technical training, etc. are introduced in order to provide the Chinese higher vocation education with valuable experiences and enrich the study on New Zealand's education.The thesis consists of the preface and four chapters. The preface is mainly about the purpose and significance of the study, the definition of higher vocational education and ITP and the methodology and steps of the study. The first chapter is the brief introduction about the development of ITP, analysis of factors caused its growth and its position and function in education system in New Zealand; the he second chapter introduces the administration of national organization on ITP and self-determination of the Polytechnic-running; the third chapter, the critical one in the thesis, is the detailed information about systematic analysis of its NOF, curriculum development and technical training, staffdevelopment and funds, etc. and its characteristics; the last chapter describes the development of our national higher vocational education. Its challenges in the development during 21 century and its current problems are displayed. Therefore, our own higher vocational education is provided some significant suggestion from the successful experience ITP in New Zealand.
