This study establishes the system of reading teaching aim in the following three dimensions of Standards for Chinese Language Course:"knowledge and ability","process and method", and"feeling, attitude and value outlook". The three aspects are correlated and integrated as a whole, which emphasizes the overall improvement of Chinese language attainment. Knowledge and ability stress the knowledge taught in class and the methods and skills that students are expected to learn and grasp through class studies.Process and method emphasize in what way class teaching is arranged and thus what kind of learning process students will experience, as well as the methods in which students study or solve problems. Feeling, attitude and value outlook focus on what kind of outlook students are expected to establish through class teaching activities. Hence, we can divide the reading teaching aim into the following three sub aims: knowledge and ability aim, process and method aim, and the aim of feeling, attitude and value outlook.To optimize the reading teaching process, we shall start with designing the reading teaching aim. The design shall follow the scientific, systematic, specific, hierarchical and dynamic principles. The establishment of reading teaching aim in class shall abide by Chinese Language Course Standards, be based on teaching materials, and adapt to the needs of the society. The statement of reading teaching aim in class must be clear, definite, specific, detailed, and easy to grasp. It shall not be ambiguous or impractical. Generally speaking, a clearly and definitely expressed specific aim shall include the principal action part, action verb, action object, action circumstances and action standard. They are usually called the five elements of a specific action aim.The strategies for accomplishing the knowledge and ability aim include intensive reading and teaching, questioning and induction, overall perception and partial probe.The strategies for accomplishing the process and method aim emphasize reading and reciting, perception and appreciation, and students'initiative.The strategies for accomplishing the aim of feeling, attitude and value outlook emphasize integration of three-dimensional aims, interaction of feelings between teachers and students, dialog and individual development, and experience reading.The three dimensions are correlated and integrated as a whole. Among the three dimensions, knowledge and ability are the basis and core, process and method are the means and approach, and feeling, attitude and value outlook are the drive and backbone. The three-dimensional aims are concurrent, closely connected and co-stimulative, namely, triune. After we arrange the relations between the three-dimensional aims clearly, we shall pay attention to the integration of three-dimensional aims during reading teaching. The integration of three-dimensional aims is not the simple superposition of three dimensions. Instead, it is to take knowledge and ability as the main thread, infiltrate feeling, attitude and value outlook, and embody them in process and method so as to achieve the general aim.
