With the damage of mankind's survival environment and resources, humans tasted the bitter fruit of damage to the environment, and the problem of the environmental awareness has gradually deepened, and people pay great attention to it. In this context, the idea of sustainable development emerged.The middle school time is most important time that a person forms own world outlook on life. Therefore the middle school geography education is the most important stage. The contemporary middle-school students will be the future society's masters, so comprehensively improving their quality is the cornerstone to realize the progress of the future society and the sustainable development. Furthermore, student's sustainable development theory is a non - very important standard to measure the level of secondary education for sustainable development and the success of national environmental education or otherwise of, involves the question which the 21st century raises any type quality. Therefore, the strengthening of the sustainable development theory education of the middle school time has the profound strategic sense that should cause the related education policy-maker and the workers highly takes.My basis for the development of education and the past seven curriculum reform, have made tremendous achievements, but we must recognize that at present, China's basic education development of the contemporary status requirements and the historical responsibility still exist the great contrasts. In order to further understand the present situation of the sustainable development education and the status of the contemporary middle school students'knowledge of sustainable development and the awareness of sustainable development, so as to better construct the sustainable development concept during the secondary stage of students. The author carried on the survey research on the sustainable development of knowledge and awareness of sustainable development in the period from October 2005 to July 2006 (during which the new and old materials replace in some secondary schools) in some middle schools in Qingdao.The survey questionnaire is anonymous. A questionnaire is divided into the A volume (appendix one) and the B volume (appendix two). A volume is mainly directed at the knowledge of sustainable development, and the B volume is mainly directed at secondary awareness of sustainable development. Each questionnaire has the same score and the same amount, and is divided into two parts, multiple-choice and non-multiple choice questions. And multiple-choice questions were in multiple-choice. In order to make data more accurate and reliable, the survey was divided into three groups to sample test.From the result of the survey, the old teaching focus more on teaching students how to deal with examinations, rather than teaching them how to solve real life problems. So the consciousness of the content and teaching of old teaching on constructing the function of middle-school student's sustainable development is smaller than by far their sustainable development knowledge. New textbooks not only focus on the knowledge of sustainable development, training students to pay more attention to the sustainable development of knowledge, enhance their awareness of sustainable development. Therefore, the content and teaching of new secondary geography teaching plays an important role on the building of the student's awareness of sustainable development.Analysis of the results of the survey also shows that : there are some differences between the two test group of students, both in the theoretical understanding of the sustainable level, or in their participation in environmental awareness and the environmental behavior tends and the attitude to sustainable development. But it is certain that the new curriculum reform makes geography education in teaching content and teaching objectives, more emphasis on the sustainable development concept training. But from the volume B, there are still some problems in education for sustainable development in geography education, and mainly the teaching content and methods of education for sustainable development and evaluation are not perfect, yet wait for further improves.Thus, the author proposes the goal based on the new curriculum for students; measures analysis of the construction of the concept of sustainable development, and a comprehensive exposition. Suggests taking the concept of sustainable development into every aspect of teaching; constructs geography courses for the comprehensive development of students; Focuses on the development of external geography curriculum resources, and establishes an open teaching model; Focuses on the education evaluation of sustainable development, and a diversified evaluation system. On this basis the author proposes a series of security measures on how to achieve sustainable development of education ,calls that the status of geography should be raised, and we should strengthen the function of geography education, deepen geographic reform, promote the healthy development of education for sustainable development, enhance the training of teachers, and continuous education of geography teachers.
