National Curriculum of English in China requires teachers to improve their traditional teaching approaches and students to change their learning styles and strategies as well. Students should improve their learning by adopting "autonomous learning" methods. Modern English teaching also emphasizes that English teaching should focus on whole person education instead of English language teaching only, especially to cultivate the students' lifetime learning capabilities. It advocates that teachers should provide students with more time and space to learn and think and do things by themselves when they are planning and organizing teaching activities. Based on this, there is a highlight in Advance with English, that is, Project. Its international term is Project Learning. It emphasizes students' "autonomous Learning" and challenges traditional teaching methods. Students are required to finish a particular project by cooperating with their classmates, by experiencing, discussing, inquiring and so on. But on the basis of investigation, we have discovered some teachers and students still lack proper and scientific teaching and learning approaches in their English teaching and learning process. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the variety of ways of teaching projects in Advance with English, which is grounded on theories of humanistic learning, constructivism views of education. This thesis also focuses on the difficulties that teachers and students may come across in their teaching and learning, at the same time introducing some effective ways of Project Learning, such as learning by doing or experiencing or inquiring. The research work has been lasting for more than one academic years. Results show that Project Learning is absolutely a very effective way to stimulate students' interest in learning English, developing their learning strategies and forming good habits of self-learning, as well as improving their English competence.
