The present paper reports the findings of a survey on undergraduates' learning adaptability of the private colleges and public colleges. The survey is conducted among 1224 undergraduates by means of questionnaire and private interviews. Based on the analysis, the author has come the following conclusion:1. The general learning adaptability of private college students is significantly lower than that of public ones. Among all the dimensions, the private college students obtain lower scores than that of public ones in learning motivation, learning environment and learning ability.2. The gender factor makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability of private college students. The female's is higher than the male's. The gender factor also makes significant difference in learning attitude, learning environment, teaching model and learning ability.The gender factor makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability and all the five dimensions of public college students. The female's general learning adaptability is higher than the male's.3. The grade factor makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability and all the five dimensions of private college students. The general learning adaptability improves slowly as the age grows from the freshman to the junior. The senior's drops sharply to the lowest nevertheless.The grade factor makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability and the dimensions of learning attitude, teaching model, learning motivation and learning environment of public college students. The general learning adaptability from high to low is sophomore, senior, freshman and junior.4. The factor of major makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability and all the five dimensions of private college students. The general learning adaptability from high to low is engineering, liberal arts and science. The students majoring in engineering score the highest in learning motivation, learning ability and learning attitude, while those of science score the lowest in teaching model, leaning ability and learning attitude.The factor of major also makes significant difference in the general learning adaptability and all the five dimensions of private college students. The general learning adaptability from high to low is engineering, liberal arts and science. The private interviews indicate that individual factor, school factor and society factor have direct effect on undergraduates' academic adaptability.
