Collage Entrance Examination is an important way of personnel selection and the link of secondary and higher education .It plays a vital part in the development of China's education .Nevertheless it still shows many defects in the present enhancing movement of national quality and popularization of higher education .It fails to meet the different requirements of the various fields and universities and has difficulties in the selection of special talents .With the popularization of higher education different admission systems are emerging to supplement the unified admission based on college Entrance Examination .One of them is the autonomous admission system ,a bright idea in the education reform .The autonomous admission system has been in practice only for a few years but is the focus of people's attention due to its special characteristics .This thesis makes a study on the autonomous admission system dealing with the history of China's college admission system , the development of it and the present situation . It also makes an analyses of the collage admission systems of American , Japan and Taiwan .Based on the results of this research work ,the another in the end of the article advances some ideas and suggestions on how to improve China's present autonomous college admission system.The thesis consists of five parts .The first part is introduction ,It is mainly on the significance of the study and gives a literature review of the field .The second part elaborates on the evolution China's autonomous college admission system ,starting from its birth in the Republic of China to the present situation in the People's Republic of China , from the simple autonomous admission to the state-planned admission, and to the double-channel admission system .The third part makes an analyses of the autonomous college admission systems in foreign countries and Taiwan .The findings are three ways of admission : A.entrirely autonomous way ,B.semi-autonomous way , C. state uniform system controlled autonomous way .The article draws good experience from American , Japan ,Taiwan and so on. The fourth part describes the present situation of China's autonomous admission system , taking on its necessity, advantages and defects , and possible problems .In the fifth part ,the author gives her idea of how China should work toward the perfection of its autonomous admission system . She advances that autonomous admission doesn't mean free and unprincipled admission . She cautiously points out some rooms for improvements . She says that China's college autonomous admission systems should be improved in view of each university's characteristics so as to be able to help it filter creative personnel . She understands that college admission should better chiefly base on the National College Entrance examination and use autonomous admission system as an important supplement that autonomous admission system should have strict rules to follow, government should give macro-guidance and the whole work should be subjected to the supervision of the whole society .
