The 38 years when the Republic of China was the time when the society is frequently turbulent in Chinese history. Meanwhile, it was the period when Chinese society evolved violently from tradition to modernization. In the special international and national background, in order to strengthen the power and force of the nation, the social education began to play the important historical role and carry the responsibility of enhancing the people's quality. The women, who counted for half of number of the total people and had little chance to share the school educational rights, gradually became the objects the social education focuses on.In the preface of this thesis, it first makes a brief introduction of the meaning of the existence of women's social education in the Republic of China, emphasizing the meaning of studying this theme. Then, look for the thoughts and methods of studying this theme by introducing and analyzing the situation of the research. In order to ensure the research field and guarantee the validity and reliance of the research materials, this thesis tries clarifying the historical definition which was relevant to the social education in the Republic of China.The thesis includes the following 3 parts.The first part introduces the development course of the women's social education in the Republic Time in details. Women's social education is divided into 4 periods.The years from 1912 when the Republic of China was founded to 1919 when the May 4 Movement was to break out is the elementary development period. In this period, women's education had been paid much attention to, yet women's social education had not been gained more attention, which was only a subordinate achievement of the social education development. Social education was called the Popular Education in the nation's relevant laws in this period.The second period is the year from 1919 to 1928, when the women's social education was spread in the Common People Education. During this period, women's social education was publicized mostly in cities. Many educational organizations, such as Women United Committees, Tianjin Women Committee, Education Lecturing Committee, and Work-study Mutual Aid Team and so on, supported the spreading of women's social education actively. Some organizations and groups even created many women journals and magazines, spreading the idea of "equality between men and women" and carrying out the women's social education. The Chinese Party, which had just been founded, also carried out the social education activities among women workers actively.In 1928, Nanking citizen's government was established and in 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. The 10 years is the third period, when women's social education was transferred from cities to countries. Women's educational practice and activities were carried out, with the Common People Education representative by YanYangchu, Country Education by Liang Shuming, Education in the Region of Soviet leaded by the Party and the Mass Education representative by Yu Qingtang.Women's social education continued its fourth development period in wars from 1937 to 1949 when the Republic of China finished its dominance in the mainland. Though it was still in frequent wars, different educational departments, the Women Directory Commission of the New Life Movement Promoting Committee and other organizations in the region of Kuomintang still carried out women's social education. Meanwhile, the women's social education in the revolutionary base areas represented by Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Boarder area took on lively and flourishing prosperity.The second part introduces the characteristics of women's social education in the period of Republic of China. For example, the educational object scope was widespread and laid particular stress on the adults and countryside; the educational content was rich and based on the social reality, but mainly still literacy education; educational form was agility and based on the objective conditions; the folk educational association was active, which promoted development of women's social education.The third part introduces the enlightenments which are based on researching of women's social education in the period. For example, social education is an important part of national education, so women's social education should be universal and social; the contents and methods should be based on the social reality; establish and perfect the theory of women's social education system, which is the rational guidance for effectively promoting women's quality.
