Since the eighties of the last century,the thought of professionalization trend has always been guiding the direction of development for the teaching profession and teaching education.The development of the times endows the professional development of college teachers with many opportunities and challenges,also plays a vital role to promote the quality of higher education.The professional development of college teachers has become one of the most important contents for human resources management in colleges.But in the real work,the college teachers professionalization did not receive enough attention,and the training for college teachers also did not play its due role.The author investigated by survey to a part of teachers in more than 40 colleges and universities,and analyzed the status of their professional development.It was found that problems were serious just like awareness of specialization,imbalance of dual professionals,non-system of training content and monotonousness of training model. Conceptual and institutional factors were also be analyzed.College teachers are typical knowledge-based workers,and colleges themselves are typical knowledge-based organizations as well.Therefore,the ideas and methods applied in knowledge management for corporations are fit for management of college teachers. To achieve the expected results of professional development for teachers,it should attach importance to the sharing for teachers'knowledge and the conversion of tacit knowledge, which can meet the incremental knowledge.Based on the theory of knowledge management,referred to the practices and experiences of the professional development for foreign college teachers,and combined with the actual situation of Chinese colleges,this study emphatically proposed three advices that we should firm the concept of lifelong learning,build a learning organization, and strengthen the concept of professional autonomy.The specific approaches for implementation were establishing a knowledge base of the professional development for college teachers,employing the tutorial system,practicing academic holidays,creating knowledge map,and holding seminars.Finally,the conclusion was obtained,also the deficiency of this study and further prospects were described.
