A Textbook plays an important role in Classroom activities. Not only does it linkteaching and learning of both teachers and students, but also plays an important role incurriculum resources.There is no uniform educational standards and textbooks in the United States,thus actually is beneficial for both the textbook writers and teachers.This thesis , taking McGraw-Hill Edition and Prentice hall edition as examples,explores structure and function of the American high school history textbooks. Thetextbook of McGraw-Hill Edition is published by the McGraw-Hill EducationCompany, providing outstanding professional development for teachers and schooladministrators. The textbook of Prentice Hall Edition is published by PearsonEducation. It offers the exclusive Concept Connector Solution-an engagingpersonalized learning experience designed to make history stick and show studentswhy history matters today. This highly acclaimed program enables students to gobeyond the facts-by exploring enduring key concepts and essential questions thatremain relevant today.This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter mainly explains thepurpose and significance of the study, research synthesis, research methods andinnovations. The second chapter mainly explains the relationship between historytextbooks and the U.S history curriculum. Chapter III and IV respectively, McGraw-Hill Edition and Prentice hall edition, for example, study the structure of Americanhigh school history textbooks, and reveal its function. Two sets of textbooks areselected teacher edition and student edition, from the textbook unit structure and textstructure of two dimensions, indicating that the textbooks are different versions of theframework of the system and its functions. Chapter V analyzes the U.S. high schoolhistory textbooks in several major characteristics , in order to give readers acomprehensive history of the structure and function inAmerican history textbooks.
