With the broadcast of the program The Rise of the Great Nations and the booming of China's economy, the consciousness of great powers is a hot topic of the times. The restoration of the Chinese nation requires the conciousness of opening and responsibility of the nation. High school students are the future hardcore in the constrution of Chinese characteristic socialism, and it is the historical mission for them to build a moderately prosperous society and the restoration of the Chinese nation. Therefore, it is important to implant them the conciousness of a responsible great power.Firstly, the essay hereof briefly analyzes the situation of the incubation of the conciousness of great powers, and on that basis gives an defination of what a great power should be and the conciousness of great powers, and furtherly classifies the conciousness of great power. The essay holds the argue that the conciousness of a great power can be sorted into conciousness of rational patriotism, independence, opening & tolerance, enthesiasm, responsibility, enhancing its consciousness of independence, unity for strength, coordinated development, and observation of social laws. What's more, the essay demonstrates in terms of the evolution of the conciousness of great powers from the incubation of the conciousness of great powers by the brilliant ancient Chinese civilization, to the extinction of the conciousness in the Chinese nation of great powers in the modern times, and the recovery of the consciousness of the nation due to the opening and reform.Secondly, the essay analyzes the realistic significance of incubating consciousness of great powers from the following aspects: adaptability to the current international situation, adaptability to the development of socialism, and the adaptablity to the requirements of the New Syllabus.The author, setting as a target senior high schools in Gaoqing County, has probed by random sampling into the status quo of the students'conciousness of great powers, and analyzed the data collected from the questionnaires using the Likert-type five-point scale. The results reveal the following: First, the rational conciousness of the senior high school students is of low level despite their increasing understanding of the current world and P.R. China. Second, the conciousness of great powers of the them is imbalanced, the conciousness of opening & tolerance, responsibility and observation of social orders scored over 3 on average, while the remaining two scored under 3. Thirdly, the author analyzes causes of frailness of rational conciousness of great powers in senior high school students, from test-oriented education, teacher-oriented teaching, ignorance of personality and value, and the lack of conciousness of great powers in the history teachers of high schools.Lastly, the essay probes into measures and approaches to incubate the consciousness of great powers. The conclusion is that the teachers should have a systematic mastery of the textbooks and adapt to scientific and effective teaching methods, which can include lectures, in-class dicussion, role playing, etc. For after-class activities, vidoes about historical events and all days of commemoration can be combined with the incubation of the consciousness of great powers.
