Mr. TaoXingzhi is not only an educator, who brought about many educational theories such as life education theory, creative education theory and some new type of modes of educational interaction. What's more important, behind these educational creations lay his thoughts of social reconstruction by the way of education at that turbulence time. That is, to train citizens'public autonomy, self-discipline moral, sense of responsibility and then cultivates people's public spirits that will make China democratic through educational means possible. Tao's social reconstruction thoughs focus firmly on the core concept "people". He thinks Chinese's run for "being above other people" make it hard to foster people's social responsibility and public spirits. Therefore, Tao puts forward his blueprint to lead to good governance:first step, social reconstruction. Second step is to creat "citizens" with morality sense, responsliblity sense, autonomy sense and public sense who are the new-born lives of China. Only by this can China be free, equal and republican. This is also the last step and the target of Tao's thoughts.My paper introduces the historical background and development stages of Tao's social reconstruction thoughts firstly. Secondly, my paper outlines Tao's ideal society in his heart from his writings and then describes the aim of his social reconstruction thought, especially the establishment of public spirits. Thirdly, the breakthrough point and core value of the social reconstruction thought are analysed in details. In conclusion, Tao contends that in order to breed muture public man in the civil society, the concept of "people" should be considered as a logical start, the purpose of fostering cilivians with moral should be considered as an entry point, the building of public spirits should be considered as core principles. Besides these theoretical analyses, my forth part will illustrate Tao's practical social acitivites filled with his social reconstruction thought, for example, his opening up XiaoZhuang and YuCai normal school, set some educational interaction modes. From these practice, we can combine the practice with theory and find out the success and shortage of these practice in the respect of public spirits cohesion. Last but not least, Tao's social reconstruction thought is not only of great significance in his times but also in nowadays. In this part, I will interpret the current situation of China's public spirits and try to discover the channel of public spirts training. In a sense, my paper hopes to reveal the realistic importance of the way to social good governance by means of the cultivation of public spirits after analyzing Tao's social reconstruction thoughts because at present, public spirits is not only a vital social capital but also a kind of scarce source. The development of public spirit is the dynamic core of the structuring the harmonious society. Moreover, it's also the main effort of the development of our society.
