HFC, one of the bandwidth access technologies, is a promising hi-tech boasting of economization, wide band and extensive coverage, and is generally acknowledged an ideal alternative solution when FTTH (the Fiber to the Home) remains unavailable.Network management is not only a basis for the network's proper operation, but also a key ensuring the network's stability and high-efficiency. However, in spite that there're detailed profiles on how to supervise the Cable Modem systems in the DOCSIS standards put forwarded by the MCNS (the Multimedia Cable Network Systems), the overall management on HFC still suffers from a great deal of deficiencies due to many reasons. There leaves much room for further studying and development. That is why we shall focus on this subject.This thesis brings forward an economical solution to the HFC network managing system based upon SNMP, which includes two parts: Network Management System, and Proxy Agent. Through RS232/RS485 interface, the Proxy Agent can monitor local components, and through SNMP, the Network Management System exchanges information with the Proxy Agent, by which way it achieves remote management. The thesis makes a thorough analysis on the overall HFC network management platform systems, and on this base, designs emulationprograms of HFC Network Management System and HFC Proxy Agent, in which it presents numerous C++ codes of high reference value.By creatively introducing SNMP into the HFC Network Management, it brings forth new ideas on access network management based on CMIP. This is the highlight of the thesis.
