Nowadays, the rapidly extended scale of Internet and the development oflarge capacity operation make the requirement of network bandwidth increasefleetly. The need of highly efficient broadband optical fiber network makesWavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology used widely. IP overWDM is considered as a promising solution for the next generation Internet. And Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is a focus in research to realize the IP overWDM.It is very important for OBS network to be efficiently managed if it iswidely applied ultimately. However, OBS network is still an experimentalstage, so the study of OBS network management is a research stage. This paper illustrates the principle of OBS, network architectures andmodule functions, and expatiates the principle and the architecture of networkmanagement, as well as a detailed analysis of Simple Network ManagementProtocol (SNMP) which is the most popular network management protocol.Based on the existing researches, a solution of network management foundedon SNMP which aims to the OBS experiment network is brought forward. Thismanagement includes two parts: Network Manager and Proxy Agent. ThroughRS232 interface, the Proxy Agent can monitor local components, and throughSNMP, the Network Manager exchanges information with the Proxy Agent , bywhich way it achieves remote management. This paper introduces the module partition and the realization flow of theManager program. And it also explicates how to use WINSNMP API and MFCto realize the configuration, the performance, the failure and the data collectionmodules of the Manager. In the chapter, a part of code and the interfaces of theManager are given out. And something should be paid attention to in...
