Innovation is the soul of a company’s survival and development as well as an embodiment of its core competitiveness. Talented personnel are the foremost resource for a company. As the main body of enterprise innovation and strategic development, science and technology talent reflects, to some extend, a company’s technological level, innovative capability and sustainability. As youth is the pioneer in enterprise competition, the innovative capabilities of young engineering staff define a company’s future. Therefore, technology and personnel intensive oilfield enterprises cannot grow or even survive without innovation and qualified personnel. The decreasing oil price around the world is challenging the traditional concepts and operational methods focusing on stability. Oilfield industry has entered a crucial period of reform and growth, which has even higher requirements for the innovation among young engineering staff, and thus, oilfield enterprises must step up the building of innovative abilities of their young science and technology staffs.This article based on the research of young engineering staff of J oilfield, starting form human resource development and innovation theories, analyses the methods and features of youth talent development, and explains the forms, indicators and factors of innovation. It also provides practical experience and enlightenment through integration of theoretic research and study of typical international cases of developing innovative capability among young tech personnel.The 1st part this article comprehensively introduces its current development of enterprise innovation by illustrating its team structure, environment and innovation development among its young technicians.The 2nd part on the basis of theoretical research, a questionnaire on such topics was designed and distributed in young engineer populated sub-institutes including the manufacturing frontline and scientific research bodies. The questionnaire was designed to learn about the young engineers’current positions, involved programs, research fruits, published papers, vocational trainings and self evaluations, and to gather their opinions and suggestions regarding talent development methods and encouragements. Based on a combination of interviews of senior oilfield experts and HR directors from different units, this article draws conclusions on the problems facing the innovation development of young engineering talent.The 3rd part of the article, after finding the causes, it also offers pertinent suggestions and measures.
