In September 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a speech at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan and proposed the idea of the Silk Road economic belt. From then on, the Silk Road Economic Belt has aroused widespread responses and attention at home and abroad. Most countries along the economic belt support this initiative.The core region of the Silk Road Economic Belt is Russia and central Asia, however,in this same region, the Eurasian Economic Union was established on January 1, 2015.How to reconcile the two strategies and explore the ways of cooperation have become the problem that China and the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have to face.Starting from comparing the two strategies, this article tries to explore the similarities and difference between the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union respectively from background, partner selection, goals, effects and the operating mechanism. Basing on that, this article analyzes and summarizes the collected data and information to show that the cooperation between the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union has a substantial political,economical and social basis and has yielded a great mount of fruits. But there are also a series of problems which will impact the cooperation. Only when we face up to the problems and find the right solutions can we put new energy to the cooperation. The last part of this article looks into the future of the cooperation between the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union, points out the great potential of cooperation and how China should respond to the development of the Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, it also puts forward some suggestions on how to deepen the cooperation in the future.
