Core competence has become the key factor that affects enterprises' long-term competitive advantage since it appeared in 1990. With the growing tendency of economic globalization and the quick development of Third Party Logistics (3PL), the competition between 3PL enterprises is fierce. It' s significant for 3PL to improve competition by means of the establishment of core competence. To exactly analyze and evaluate 3PL' s core competence is especially the base and necessary step for 3PL to cultivate and innovate their core competence.Foreign 3PL enterprises with strong competence have got into China' s internal market after its entry to WTO. The competition is enhanced too. it' s also important for China' s 3PL enterprises to cultivate and innovate core competence by means of exact analysis and evaluation.Firstly the conception and the affected factors of 3PL' s core competence is fully analyzed. After analyzing the strenghths, weakness, opportunities and threats of establishing 3PL' s core competence in our country, several suggestions on how to cultivate and innovate China' s 3PL' s core competence are provided. On the basis of the above analysis , the evaluation index system of 3PL' s core competence is put forward . The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is applied to confirm the index-weight of each index. In addition, using the method of fuzzy synthesis evaluation, a quantitative model that assesses 3PL' s core competence is constructed . The positive analysis is applied to analyze FedEx' s core competence. The result is factual. Finally, based on 2003' -2004' annual reports of listed company of transport and store industry in our country , the evaluation index system of 3PL' s core competence in the view of financial factors is construted. By means of Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Principal Factor Analysis (PFA), 34 listed companies are evaluated. From eleven major financial indicators four components and four factors that have certain meaning are extracted. According to the components and factors scoring results , 34 listed companies are ranked.
