| The theme of this article is to study how the effective performance management can help the company in achieving its strategic goals. The author has taken the example of a world famous hotel management group, introduced the group's performance management system and its application in one of its hotels. While recommending its performance management system as one of the successful system among the hotel groups, the author also analyzed areas for improvement during the execution of this system and produced her own suggestions for improvement. The whole article is comprised of five parts. The first part is the overview theory of how an effective performance management system can help a company to achieve its strategic goals. The second part is the introduction to the performance management system of the hotel group, the five steps in building up the system. Step 1, identify the elements for the performance appraisal; Step 2, the set up of the appraisal system; Sept 3, the execution of the performance goals; Step 4, conduct the performance appraisal; Step 5, feedback and evaluate the performance system. The third part mainly analyzed how the group's performance management system is carried out and implemented in one of its hotels, the basic information and background of the hotel and the characteristics of hotel management and the overall procedure of the performance appraisal in this hotel. The fourth part further analyzed the performance management system in this hotel, its strength in helping the hotel to fulfill its goals and objectives, and the areas for improvement during the implementation of the system. The fifth part summarized the major clue of this article, and further elaborate in theory the optimism effect of the performance appraisal system in helping the company achieving its strategic goals. In this section, the framework of this article is summarized, the limitations are discussed and directions for future research are suggested. The significance of this article lies in its practical reference to the hotel industry in the performance management area, and has its typical value. The purpose of the article is to explore how an effective performance management system can help the overall human resources management and eventually help the company to fulfill its strategic goals. |
