China's Export Processing Zone Development Overview And Countermeasures

Export processing zone (EPZ) refers to a special zone near the port, airport or other traffic convenient places in a country (or state). EPZ offers such infrastructures like water,electricity,communications and workshops. EPZ attracts foreign direct investment through preferable policies, develops internationally competitive export processing industries. Most or all of the products porduced in EPZ are exported.The world's EPZ is the product of the revolution of science- technology and the adjustment of the world's industrial structure, the product of the technical development of transportation and communication, and the product of the multinational corporation's whole world's strategic. EPZ has undergone three stages since its establishment. At present , the development of EPZ displays four types of tendency: integration, becoming scientific and technological, the closer horizontal linkage with the economy of the host country, and the combination of export and import. EPZ's impact on host countries'job creation, FDI, foreign exchange earnings potential are abviously, but the impact on the technology transfer and the effects on the local and national economies is limited.Though the new economic thing appears only 6 years in China, EPZ is developed fast and is spreaded widely in China. It really does good to promote the updating of the processing trade and the adjustment of industrial structure. But not all the EPZs get the same achievements. There are still some unneglectable problems which confined the development and prevented EPZ from playing its role.Based on the theoretical and practical achievement concerning EPZ, the thesis conducts a deep analysis of the world's and China's EPZ in their general situation, trend, achievement and the main problems, in order to find a suitable method to accelerate the development of EPZ and to prolong the EPZ's life.The thesis has five chapters.
