Planning Of Suzhou Western Eco-City From The Perspective Of Low Carbon

Rapid urbanization process brings a series of problems about environmental pollution and ecological destruction. Eco-city construction is proposed based on this reality, its aim to achieving a virtuous cycle of urban ecology. Now, the concept and theory of low-carbon economy develop rapidly when we combat dramatic changes of global climate. The essence of eco-city and low-carbon economy is the same. Their ultimate goal is committed to sustainable development of mankind.The study acts Suzhou Western Eco-city as the research object based on the theories of sustainable development, ecology, low-carbon economy and so on to study the eco-city construction and discuss Suzhou Western Eco-city planning ideas from the perspective of low carbon.Firstly,This study uses AHP, Delphi expert consultation and other methods to build the Suzhou Western Eco-city construction Evaluation Index System by learning from existing relevant national eco-city index systems and low carbon economic index, which includes three categories: socio-economic development, prevention of environmental pollution and ecological civilization construction. There are 38 specific indicators in the index system which includes 9 low-carbon indicators. And it also uses the evaluation index system to evaluate the status of Suzhou Western Eco-city construction. The value of comprehensive evaluation shows that the eco-city construction is under the common condition.Secondly,This study surveys the local residents of Suzhou Western Eco-city about their satisfaction with the local environment, their ecological awareness and the impacts of ecological city construction on them by means of questionnaire. The result shows the residents'satisfaction of local environment is just so-so. There is a big room for ecological awareness improvement. Some residents believe that the eco-city construction has a great role in local environment, but some obstacles to economic development.At last,This study makes a comprehensive analysis of Suzhou Western Eco-city current situation based on the results of field research, evaluation index system and survey. For the problems existing in the eco-city construction, it puts forward some measures and several demonstration projects.
