By analyzing the definition, classification and interaction of screw thread parameters, it can be concluded that the pitch diameter, half of thread angle and the thread pitch are the key parameters influencing the quality of screw thread. By comparing the merits and defects of traditional screw thread-detecting methods, applying today's advanced designing mentality of dectecting equipment and non-contact detecting means--- laser displacement sensor with triangle laser method, this paper proposes the designing mentality and technical scheme of external thread gauge detecting software.At first step, based on comparison between traditional and advanced screw thread detection techniques, this paper presents that non-contact scanning detection techniques can be used as a detecting means concerning external thread gauge detecting software, and emphasizes on presenting the basic framework and overall design scheme of professional detecting software.After software design scheme is introduced, the paper analyzes theoritical design scheme of screw thread parameters-detecting hardware. Based on theoritical analysis on triangle laser method, it verifies that laser displacement sensor can be used to detect the surface type of screw thread. According to detection quota on external thread gauge, it presents the requirments on choice,function and accuracy of laser displacement sensor. Meanwhile, it presents working principle and design scheme on external thread gauge which based on virtual coordinate of screw thread parameters detection. A simulation detecting device is needed to realize spatial coordinate environment. This device consists of a framework structure based on 3-coordinate measuring machine and other components which mainly includes the rotating platform and the laser displacement sensor. 3-coordinate measuring machine, rotating platform and other components are chosen according to screw thread's characters such as specifications and accuracy, etc. After theoritical introduction of the whole detecting system's hardware design, it turns to present techniques dealing with software,scanning data,framework of 3-coordinate measuring machine,rotating platform's raster signals. It suggests that the tooth-shape of screw thread be scanned to get basic data, after eliminating gross error and denoising with wavelet threshold, the data be analyzed with first order regression and interpolation, then, relying standared screw thread data base and special decision method, the parameters be calculated for judging the screw thread's quality.Professional software for external thread gauge detection is designed on the base of screw thread parameters-detecting theory and overall design scheme of detecting software. By analyzing,detecting software operation and data induced,this detecting software is verified to be able to satisfy the functional requirements on design, taking advantages such as high accuracy,reliable and swift calculation,stable operation,simple operation interface, etc. Thus, this software can totally meet requirments of external thread gauge detection in practice.
