HNO3 is an important and widely used basic chemical material. This paper studies the design and development of the computer control system for the 100 thousand ton/year HNO3 process in Jilin petrochemical corporation, Jilin Province. The control strategies, design of the control system, development of the application software and field application are given in detail based on the analysis of the weakness of the old HNO3 process. Yokogawa CS3000 R3 distributed control system is adopted in the development of the computer control system to improve the performance of the process control. Yokogawa CS3000 R3, which takes Vnet/IP control bus and ESB bus, is strong in the real-time performance, redundancy, stability and powerful software. Double closed loop ratio control of the oxidation furnace, ratio and cascade control of the mixture of raw materials, and interlock of part of the parameters are realized.The designed control system is put into operation in the field and meets the design requirement. An optimized control strategy and more accurate control performance are achieved. The less consumption and best output are also achieved and significant economic and social benefits are produced.
