In this paper, combining various types of compaction equipment and compaction characteristics of subgrade technical process, performance and problems of impact roller have been analysed and get the conclution that the balanced impact roller have features such as saving labor, saving time, saving energy and simple construction techniques. Balanced impact roller is the new product of "energy-saving principle based on potential energy for mechanical design ", so its compaction effect analysis should be carried out. Compaction effect test of balanced impact roller has been done on the collapsible loess foundation,and subsidence^ smoothness and compaction of the foundation's different depths have been obtained.Test and analysis results show that:1)The foundation subsidence has larger amount after the balanced impact roller's 5 times press, and 25 times press will enable the Northwest region foundation collapsibility eliminated.It can solves the compaction of subgrade stability. 2)The road surface smoothness is relatively poor after 5 times press, but the smoothness will significantly improve with the press times's increase.3)The subgrade compaction degree will increase with the balanced impact roller's press times increase.4)With the balanced impact roller's press times increase, the increasing number of compaction gradually becomes smaller. 5)Compared to the original impact roller, the balanced impact roller has improved operational efficiency, enhanced influence depth to the collapsible loess foundation, and in the same depth of subgrade the compaction is raised by 1 to 3 percentage points. If the same compaction effect is achieved, the balanced impact roller can average save energy about 12.5%than the original impact roller.According to the experimental results, the relationship of compaction and compaction times, subsidence, compaction depth and the working speed have been researched. It can provides a theoretical basis for predicting and controlling compaction quality in the engineering practice.Through the industrial test, the paper verifies that the balanced impact roller,which can replace large-tonnage vibratory roller in a certain extent, can obtain fine compaction effect in the reasonable working parameters,also demonstrates the balanced impact roller's advantage of the deep soil compaction and the quality improvement.The paper proposes a initial program of balanced impact roller for the collapsible loess foundation's compaction and reinforce, and this also provides a feasible scheme for further solving the problem of the deep soil compaction.
