Considering the characteristics and development trends of impact rollers (IR), and the facts that its real construction technology is with more complexity and its normal operation requires high-level drivers, we propose a new IR program based on energy-saving principles; we call it balanced three-bump IR, which can press compactly, be constructed easily and used conveniently, and also is energy-saving.The fundamentals of press, energy-consuming, and construction-technology are systematically analyzed at first; the parts of IR that should be improved and deserves to be studies are presented. Two designing schemas about the three-bump IR are comparatively analyzed. MATLAB simulation technology is used to design the parameters of the three-bump IR, and to analyze how much it satisfies the energy-saving index. The construction technology of the three-bump IR is also given. Based on its moving characteristics, the effects of its main parameters on the bumping movement and on the direction-changing are analyzed, and those main parameters are then assigned optimally. The principles of direction-changing and field-changing mechanisms are proposed. Based on above theoretical and practical research results, we then analyze and propose the key machine mechanisms and the phase-coordinating mechanisms which determine whether the energy-saving principles can be realized, two designing schemas of the phase-coordinating mechanisms for balancing the three-bump IR are given then. The detailed theoretical analysis and corresponding schemas on the phase-coordinating mechanisms and the machine architecture provide the convincing support for the implementations of the proposed three-bump IR.It is demonstrated with the theoretical analysis and simulation experiments that the proposed three-bump IR is with simple construction technological process, and has significative advantages over the traditional IR as for the press effectiveness and energy-saving.It is a revolutionary improvement for IR that energy-saving principles are introduced in its designing process. The proposed three-bump IR in this paper should greatly reduce the complexity of process and greatly increase the effect of compaction. This study not only improves the equilibrium theory of impact compaction but also gives a solid foundation for the development of the industrialization of impact compaction.
