The balance of assembly line directly affects the productivity of manufacturing system. The assembly line of DA Company was analyzed using work study principles and techniques. And improvements of balance of the retarder assembly line were studied applying Double-E software in IE method. 0-1 programming models were set up and solved under Lingo environment to optimize the balance of the assembly line. And the results turned to significantly increase the balance rate of the assembly line, which were the same as productivity and use efficience of equipment increase and market needs satisfy.Firstly, the status of the retarder production assembly line was analyzed through field observation, field measurement, video observation, and data analysis. After analyzing the process of the retarder assembly, the processes of the retarder assembly line were analyzed using industrial engineering program analysis method. After then, the improvement was made to the assembly process.Then, minimum operation units were drafted. The actions of each operator on the assembly line were analyzed through DOUBLE-E motion analysis software. Bottleneck process was analyzed using both-hands operation analysis and man-machine operation analysis. With the problems found, specific improvements were made to the working conditions of the relevant processes, and researches were done on the action norms of each process. On the basis of standard operation method set by the previous motion analysis and operation analysis, motion-time analysis were made through the DOUBLE-E software for all operation units using mod arrangement of predetermined time standard, and the standard time of the units were set.Finally, 0-1 programming models of the retarder assembly line were set up for the first and the second assembly line balancing. Program and calculation of the models were done under lingo environment, and the results turned to be optimal solution to balancing arrangements of global assembly line work.Based on the IE technology, this paper improved operational status of the retarder assembly line workers, reduced labor intensity and optimized the assembly process. This not only increased the level of the assembly line site management, but also improved the assembly line balance and increased production efficiency. On the basis of partial improvement of each station through IE method, 0-1 programming models of the assembly line were established. Then, the global optimization was made for the allocation of work. The solution turned to be optimum. The research on this paper increased the efficiency of enterprises, and provided references for practical application and future research.
