Since1913Ford’s assembly line concept made, after nearly a century of development and innovation, the assembly line in modern manufacturing has become the most common manufacturing system, whose quality directly affects the production efficiency. Assembly line balancing is an important criterion of the assembly line quality, and assembly line balancing is to make each station, each line, even each department’s operating speed close to the beat as to avoid operating time between each station not balance, resulting in a waste of time, thus reducing the efficiency of assembly line production. This paper describes the history of the status quo for the assembly line balancing research and development studies at home and abroad, and introduces the theories and methods of assembly line balancing theory, research methods, work measurement and some other IE theories and methods. As company X GLK engine assembly line for the study, qualified operators were tested operating time in the field, taking three times the standard deviation process the data, which determines the operating time of each station. Then the Hill plot Figure is established, which determines the assembly line bottleneck process and other issues. Finally,5W1H questions technologies, joint operations analysis diagram, the model row method are used to optimize the assembly line,6S is used to optimize the production site improvements, and the employee optimization system is established. Through the optimizing, the operating time of the bottleneck process is under the tact, and other problems are solved, which makes the assembly line more balanced and production efficiency be improved.
