Assembly line is a manufacturing system that is widely used. The balance rate of assembly line has great effect on the productivity of the system. the imbalance of the turntable assembly line affected the large tonnage crane assembly cycle. So,the market supply was affected seriously. In the paper,on the basis of the manufacturing process analysis of the turntable assembly line of large-tonnage crane,the method of work study was applied to make work unit standardization. As a result,the balance rate was improved,and the assembly cycle of large-tonnage crane was shortened.First,this paper introduces the research background and the turntable assembly line problems,And it is expounded that the assembly line balance theory and work study. Second, on the basis of the actuality of the assembly line was researched seriously,work unit redefined. The third,it's the assembly balance theory and work study was applied that improved the work condition standardization of assembly unit. the standard work time was obtained from measuring by the method of stopwatch, then assembly unit partition redid to make cycle time consistent.When the work completed in this paper,the operation condition was improved and the work intensity was alleviated. The balance rate of the turntable assembly line was enhanced and the assembly cycle of large-tonnage crane was shortened. The balance rate was enhanced from 62.13% to 86.45% and the three workers was reduced. The turntable assembly cycle of large-tonnage crane was shortened from 14 days to 7 days and the turntable assembly time was shortened from 6501 minutes to 3782 minutes.In the paper, work study has been successfully applied,it not only improved the balance rate and management level of the assembly line,but also proved the validity of the industry engineering method and accelerated the application of the method.
