The toll gates in the freeway are regarded as the bottleneck in the freeway. In traffic engineering, the research methods mostly used include actual measurement, analysis method and simulation experiment. Among the three methods, the method simulation experiment is widely adopted by scholars whose focus are traffic engineering because of the quality of easy-to-observe and vividness. Therefore, this paper mainly aims to present the microcosmic traffic simulation of toll gates in the freeway. This paper has analyzed the operating characteristics of vehicles near toll gates in the freeway, summed up and made an analysis on the research achievement obtained by the microcosmic traffic simulation of toll gates in the freeway and relevant models and designed a series of microcosmic traffic simulation models such as the traffic system model, the vehicle steering model, the lane change model, etc. The developed TollSim, which is built on the basis of making comparison and improvement on old models, is divided into six modules:traffic system module, vehicle generating module, vehicle steering module, toll module, statistics gathering module and statistics indicating module, as well as imitating the operating condition of vehicles near toll gates by means of D animation displayer. This paper will make an analysis of the shortage of TollSim based on the actual measurement and simulated data of Luntou Toll Gate in the Nansha Bay Freeway in Guangzhou in order to propose the methods for improvement. The focus of this paper will involve the establishment of traffic system model, selection and improvement of the microcosmic model, the design of the steering and stop system of vehicles, the design of judging lane change model and the design of TollSim.
