The scope of this research is the scope of the present Tibetan studies, but it also belongs to architectural field. At present the traditional urban and architectural studies, researchist usually study the spatial form of urban street settlement and building's single plane,type,structure or materials. Few people discuss the impact of the life,custom,belief in the ancient city.Recent years some researcher attempt to analyze the traditional settlements from the humanities, but they avoid the religion impact usually. When thought guide human behavior directly in development of the city,architecture, it's wrong of put aside religious orientation to the analysis in old towns, traditional architecture. The method is looks systems sequence. The result is often one-sided and narrow. Because Tibet Gyantse old town is influenced by strong religious, so the author attempts to study he ancient city of space, or development and construction of the ancient city from a religious point. It's important that discover the spirit of the Tibetan religious city space, and the development of the ancient city of Gyantse and the protection of traditional building.But also it hope to help in the future of the traditional settlements, construction of the research and maintenance of a new idea.With the rapid economic development,the traditional building and traditional city had disappeared in some areas near the developed area.The Gyantse ancient settlements,as the one of the Tibetan ancient building groups which is still a typical representative of ancient streets and ancient buildings. With the strong support from inland and the rise of tourism, Gyantse's economy developed very fast in recent years, while in the process the various crises are also came out in the ancient city of Gyantse.The protection of characteristic traditional neighborhood, and selectively developed into the historical and cultural city becoming an important component of protection to Gyangze, and the current town of Gyantse is still in the blank state, Protect and development the ancient city without systematically studied is undoubtedly dangerous and irresponsible.The main purpose of this research is from a religious point that excavate the space of the ancient city and the deep meaning of construction,to find the most important mechanism of protecting the ancient city-common people&;s religious beliefs, start by this point, and take measures to create a religious atmosphere for local people to let them feel like a strong sense of belonging that improve the source of power for the long-term development of the ancient city of Gyantse.Also hope that through the influence of this thesis, can promote the regard of the whole society to the traditional ancient town and buildings, and enhance awareness of the protection of traditional architecture, especially the protection of physical process, relative to the virtual body that come down the local humane and the tradition of religious spirit,the utilization and conservation.The article introduces the Gyangtse history, humanities and social background, then inquire into the space,the layout of the ancient city of Gyantse and the status of construction selectively; And make a simple analysis for the status of the ancient city of Gyantse to identify the challenges and opportunities that influence the development of the ancient city. Finally, start with the religious thought to give recommendations for the protection and update.
