HXD1 Locomotives play as a major heavy-haul transportation role in Datong-Qinhuangdao transport line. However, HXD1 Locomotives have some shortcoming, such as heavy tasks, long using, limited diagnosis, outdated date dump way, low efficiency of maintenance and etc. This paper designs the monitoring system which establishs the wireless communication link between train and ground, monitor the status of the running locomotives real-timely, and diagnose faults accurately in order to improve safety of the locomotive and efficiency of maintenance, which have a very important theoretical and practical significance.Firstly, the paper analyzes the structure and characteristics of networked control systems, establishs the diagnostic fault model and fault category according to the safe running needs. Considering the real-timely and reliability of the monitor system communication, the paper determines the data transmission way between train and ground, proposes the programs how the ground access to GSM-R/GPRS networks. On the basis of the above research, the paper proposes the overall design scheme for monitoring HXD1 locomotive in-transit, gives the function and role of the various subsystems.According to the function and role of locomotive subsystem, three-tier framework is proposed. In order to ensure the real-timely of monitoring locomotive, the paper puts forward pre-processing mechanism to set up the priorities of collecting data, reduce the traffic of communication data. The paper presents the data caching mechanism for the instability of wireless transmission. Considering the driving safety, the paper designs the mechanism how the locomotive to get the guidance information from the ground.The program is put forward between the locomotive and ground basing on the in-depth study of the GSM-R/GPRS system. The paper analyses the protocol stack of GPRS network, establishs the communication data format, gives the data protocol conversion in the network, gives the working principle and process between the locomotive and ground, designs the hardware and software processes of GPRS module, and presents the management scheme in locomotive-ground communication.Considering the real-timely requirements of monitoring, the ground information subsystem monitors the status properties of CCU, TCU and other seven devices in order to make sure the safe of locomotive,proposes the intelligent fault diagnosis method with the fault diagnosis model, feedbacks the result and report to the locomotive. The ground subsystem also designs the security mechanism and data management mechanism in the meantime.Finally, the paper gives the on-board hardware and monitoring interface of actual monitor system. The actual running results in the Datong-Qinhuangdao line show that the in-transit monitoring system can quickly and effectively locate signal source of the fault, eliminate the potential security risks, make a feasible and effective way to improve HXD1 locomotive in-transit safety.
