The electrified railway is the trend of railway transport development for its prominent advantages, But, the harmonic and reactive components produced by electrical locomotive not only affects the quality of power system, but also influenced electrical locomotive up and running and traffic and transport organizations. So, harmonic control and reactive component compensation about traction power system attracts lots of interests.This paper analyzed the reason that electrified railway generated harmonic and reactive components as well as its characteristics, and harmonic hazards, it described the transport organization and transport background of Datong-Qinhuangdao railway. It also analyzed the hudong Station's harmonics affecttion to the run of electrical locomotive and train operation. By analyzing the test results of the start of electrical locomotive, This paper Proposed some trip controll Solutions due to the harmonic caused by locomotive's start.By analyzing the condition of breaker trip in hudong station's straight feeder,this paper put forward the necessity of suppression method of harmonics. It Introduced several reactive power compensation devices, such as shunt capacitor compensation equipment, static var compensator (SVC), Static Var Generator (SVG), active power filter (APF) and other characteristics of the type of compensation.At the same time, it mainly Introduced the work principle of SVG,analyzed the data of power quality in hudong station, and evaluated the effect of harmonic control.
