Aerodynamics of straddle-type monorail vehicle is one of the most important indexes for vehicle design. The important research goal in this paper is to carry on the simulation of external field aerodynamic for straddle-type monorail vehicle and realize to the process automation.Based on the aerodynamics of trains and computational fluid dynamics, reference of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 2 head truck of straddle-type monorail train's size, the simplified CAD model is established. By using of computational fluid dynamics software, detailed analysis of the performances of external field aerodynamic for straddle-type monorail vehicle and research the degree of influence about different parts of the geometry effect on flow field. Then according to the contribution which every detail compare to the entire external field, four of its main shape parameters affecting on aerodynamic performances are proposed: head, tail, apron board, bogie(including tires). By changing these parameters, further analysis of its aerodynamics has carried on.As its own structural characteristics, the process simulation of straddle-type monorail vehicle's external field is relatively complicated, particularly evident among the different parameters models to optimize the design and comparison, the repeat operation takes amount of time work. View of this, based on the secondary development platform of STAR-CCM+, Java API, to develop a customized interface that is simulation process automation interface for external flow field of straddle-type monorail vehicle. The interface effectively reduces input time which generated by operating the software itself and greatly improve simulation efficiency. The simulation results qualitatively and quantitatively simulate monorail flow field performances of the front truck and the effects to the performances from different shape parameters. Some modified recommendations are put forward correspondingly. And provides an important reference to the upcoming wind tunnel experiment.
