Many experts and scholars have studied the protection of ancient towns in China since the 1980s. But most of the studies concentrate on the water towns of the south of the Yangtze river and the southwestern towns with national distinctive. The Guangxi ancient towns, located in the southern of China, with beautiful landscape, long history and rich culture, are less studied. Zhongdu ancient town is located in central Guangxi, with a long history, a whole ancient feature and cultures of military preparation and ferry spot. It's a typical representative of Han Chinese settlements in the northern Guangxi. This paper, selecting Zhongdu ancient town as a research object, researches its conservation planning from the aspects of totality development planning, control strategies, and implementation strategies, hoping for providing a practical guide for the protection of the town and making contribution to the protection theory of historical cities and towns.There are six parts in the thesis:Chapter I outlines the background and the origin of the study, the meaning and purpose of the study, research status, research innovations, research contents and methods, and research framework.Chapter II analysis the features of the ancient town from the aspects of the development historical, the features of overall level, street space level, single building level, cultural characteristics, and the crisis status.Chapter III analysis the relationship between conservation and tourism development of the ancient town, the planning principles, planning concepts, the development of positioning, image marketing, development planning and other aspects of analysis.Chapter IV studies the control strategies of the layout of the town land, traffic, green landscape, development intensity and building height, and architectural style.Chapter V studies the implementation strategies of the design of historic buildings, the important nodes of public space, the street facade renovation, and the implementation of the planning.Chapter VI promotes the research results to other towns in Guangxi.
